What does “pain” mean?
Pain experienced by any individual indicates injury. The inflicted injuries may have known or unknown causes.
What kinds of pain are treated in the pain clinic?
Pain specialists are able to treat chronic pain. Chronic pain is pain that lasts for three to six months, depending on the type of pain, and does not improve. In fact, such pain cannot be treated even with painkillers.
Pain specialists are able to control chronic pain with several methods or strategies. The first line of treatment for doctors is medication. After prescribing medication, patients are given a chance to recover. If medication is not effective for them, in addition to this type of treatment, hydrotherapy, physiotherapy, and some exercises are also recommended to the patient.
If the patient still has pain, another method, namely through a network of nerve blocks, is used to control pain, which is called a nerve block.
What is the purpose of visiting a pain clinic?
In the pain clinic, all treatments are performed in a closed and non-invasive manner so that people have fewer invasive surgeries. In general, the main goal of the pain clinic is for patients to postpone surgery as much as possible and to perform their treatment in a non-invasive and highly effective manner.
For example, when surgery is performed to treat a disc, the anatomy of the body is definitely disrupted. After the surgery, there is a possibility of the risk being eliminated, but in most cases, the pain caused in people still remains after the surgery.
Most of those who visit the pain clinic are people who complain about the surgery performed and their pain has not yet been resolved. In these cases, the doctor performs injections to treat such people to improve the pain.
If people visit the pain clinic from the very beginning to resolve their problem, invasive treatments such as surgery are postponed and in most cases, there is no need for surgery. People are treated with only non-invasive treatments performed at the pain clinic, and their pain is greatly reduced.
Which patients are treated by pain specialists?
People who have chronic pain in areas such as:
Back
Legs
Pelvis
Hands
Elbows
Shoulder
Chest
Neck
Long-term headaches
By identifying the nerve fibers and blocking them, the pain caused is completely reduced. For example, many clients have a problem with the trigeminal nerve in the face, which causes one side of their face to hurt completely. By performing the trigeminal nerve block procedure, the pain is completely relieved
Also, some people are constantly engaged in repetitive activities due to their jobs. For example, those who are constantly packing or punching, such people experience a problem in their hands called TENNIS ELBOW or pain in the elbow area.
If these people visit an orthopedic doctor, surgery will definitely be recommended for them, while the problem will be resolved by visiting a pain clinic and only with injections. After the injection, the doctor’s care and recommendations should be paid attention to. For example, work must be stopped for two weeks and prescribed medications must be taken in full.
